Mary Pugh was born in Allen, Alabama (Clarke County) to the late Odell and Clara Mae Pugh. She is the third of seven siblings. Growing up, Mary was raised on tough principles and a life of holiness, which resulted in a solid foundation in the Word of God.

Her parents set a powerful example by taking her to churches all across the state of Alabama as a little girl, singing in their family group, The Mighty Pugh Singers. Together, they performed before major national gospel acts such as The Mighty Clouds of Joy and many others throughout Alabama and beyond.

Mary is the recipient of the 32nd American Gospel Quartet Convention Frank Williams Humanitarian Award. She also received a coveted honor from Midday Praise Radio, along with a Resolution from the House of Representatives. Her family recorded several albums, spanning a remarkable career of over 56 years singing the gospel.

Holding tightly to her parents’ teachings, Mary accepted her call to preach at the tender age of 12 — God’s perfect number. Since then, she has been walking and talking with Jesus through evangelism and singing for over 50 years.

She is the proud mother of two children, Camille and Wallace Marshall. Mary has a deep passion for youth and continually imparts wisdom, encouraging them to live positively and stay on the Lord’s side — because with Him, you shall win.

Today, Mary is one of Alabama’s premier and most sought-after gospel singers and evangelists, traveling across the United States seeking the lost and offering salvation. After more than fifty years of ministry, she isn’t tired yet.

Outside of her busy schedule, Mary enjoys cooking, fishing, and spending quality time with family and friends. Her favorite scripture, which guides her life, is Philippians 4:13:
“I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me.”
